چکیده

The interaction of gold with CeO2(111) layer was investigated with photeelectron spectroscopy (PES) and by means of resonant photoelectron spectroscopy (RPES). Gold was deposited in steps onto a 1.5 nm thick CeO2(111) layer, epitaxially grown on a Cu(111) substrate. The RPES showed a partial Ce → Ce reduction, observed as a resonant enhancement of the 4f level of the Ce species. This can be explained by creation of a new Au ionic state located in Au 4f spectra. The observed effects are stronger for Au deposition at room temperature than 250 °C. The results can be interpreted as a formation of a CeAuxO2 compound produced by gold – cerium oxide interaction. The formed compound is probably located at the gold – cerium oxide interface.

A Comparative Photoemission Study of Ceria and Gold-doped Ceria /Cu(111) Interfaces

We have studied the electronic states in three different ceria thin film surfaces prepared on a Cu(111) single-crystal surface by vapor deposition at different conditions: at 250 °C, at room temperature and finally Au-doped ceria film obtained by simultaneous deposition of Au and CeO2 at room temperature (RT). Electronic properties of the layers and interaction of gold with CeO2 were investigat...

Investigation of trimethylacetic acid adsorption on stoichiometric and oxygen-deficient CeO2(111) surfaces.

We studied the interactions between the carboxylate anchoring group from trimethylacetic acid (TMAA) and CeO2(111) surfaces as a function of oxygen stoichiometry using in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The stoichiometric CeO2(111) surface was obtained by annealing the thin film under 2.0 × 10(-5) Torr of oxygen at ∼550 °C for 30 min. In order to reduce the CeO2(111) surface, the t...

Molecular dynamics investigation into the effect of temperature on the structure and properties of methyl methacrylate thin films on a Au(111) surface.

An atomistic modeling approach is performed to investigate the effect of temperature on the structural properties of the MMA (methyl methacrylate) thin film and a Au(111) surface. The density profile and orientation of the MMA molecule in the thin film have been analyzed. We found that there is a significant effect on the density profile and orientation of the MMA molecule in the region near th...

CO Oxidation at the Au − Cu Interface of Bimetallic Nanoclusters

DFT+U calculations of the structure of CeO2(111)-supported Aubased bimetallic nanoclusters (NCs) show that a strong support−metal interaction induces a preferential segregation of the more reactive element to the NC−CeO2 perimeter, generating an interface with the Au component. We studied several Au -based bimetallic NCs (Au-X, X: Ag, Cu, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru) and found that (Au− Cu)/CeO2 is opti...

Fabrication of antiferromagnetic α-Cr2O3(0001) thin film and influence on magnetism of ultrathin Co film

We have investigated the fabrication of α-Cr2O3(0001) thin film on a Au(111) surface and the effect of the antiferromagnetic feature of α-Cr2O3(0001) on the magnetic properties of ultrathin Co film on α-Cr2O3(0001). Highly oriented α-Cr2O3(0001) thin film is fabricated by oxidizing Cr(110) thin film grown on a Au(111) surface. Upon the oxidization of threefold symmetric Cr(110) thin film, the α...
